Heavy rains in Jamnagar

The people of Jamraval village in Jamnagar woke up on Monday to heavy rains. This tiny village in Kalyanpur taluka has received nearly three times the state's cumulative rainfall so far.

It rained throughout Monday and the village recorded nearly 75 mm of rainfall in just one day. The whole state, has since June 1 received only 28mm of rainfall which is just over 3 per cent of the total annual rainfall. Last year, by July 4 the state had got nearly 12 per cent of the total rainfall.

Harish Thakrar, who runs an electronics shop in the village, says, "At about 4 am, we all woke up as we realised that it was raining heavily. This continued till 9 am. The mood was jubilant as people were waiting for rains for a long time."
